Time Spent Amongst Trees

A SOCIETY OF SCOTTISH ARTISTS EXHIBITION AT THE MEFFAN GALLERY, FORFAR “We’re all—trees, humans, insects, birds, bacteria—pluralities. Life is embodied network. Because life is a network, there is no “nature” or “environment,” separate and apart from humans. We are part of the community of life, composed of relationships with “others,” so the human/nature duality that lives near the heart of many philosophies is, from a biological perspective, illusory.” ― David George Haskell, The Songs of Trees: Stories from Nature’s Great Connectors - - - Artists must be a Professional Artist Member of the SSA to apply.

Utopia - What's Yours?

A SOCIETY OF SCOTTISH ARTISTS EXHIBITION AT GRACEFIELD ARTS CENTRE, THEN KIRKCUDBRIGHT GALLERIES. A personal utopia would surely be as individual as each of our personal imagination. Is this the difficulty with any proposed Utopian society? The power of the individual would make the construct a contradiction. However, there is room in Art for the individual to create their own Utopia, which we invite you to do.

Open Call for season on Dark Matter

In 2019 Science Gallery London will delve into one of the biggest and most profound mysteries in contemporary physics – dark matter - for the upcoming season, 95% OF THE UNIVERSE IS MISSING. Can we know something exists when it has never been observed? Is this a problem when it makes up most of the mass in the universe? Science Gallery London invites submissions to their Open Call platform that will interrogate these questions, whether it be through existing and new artworks; proposals for workshops, music and performance nights, film screenings; or discussions that critically and experimentally engage with some of the season’s key themes.

This series focuses on artists who are working at the frontier of contemporary art and tackling the exhaustion of the exhibition model. Selected artists will have a chance to articulate their ideas on how they envision the future of art through film. The “Artist as an Object” series aims to serve as a bridge between different artists working on similar issues and as a gateway for international exposure.

Artist Call: Designing Hypotheticals

In this four-week intensive program guided by artists and speculative designers Sascha Pohflepp and Chris Woebken, you will be designing experiences through use of live-action role play techniques (LARPing), computer vision, machine learning, and speculative prototyping. The techniques will be diverse and collaborative exploration will be encouraged. A design for a specific community may be prototyped by crafting a narrative and using it as a laboratory in an iterative design process. More fictional challenges could be prototyped in a virtual environment allowing for a collaborative exploration of otherwise impossible spaces.
