This year, D31 will celebrate the season of winter by exploring 'Togetherness'!
D31 Art Gallery extends a formal invitation to visual artists globally for our prestigious 2024 Winter online Exhibition.
As winter approaches, we recognize the profound impact this season holds on the collective human experience. Beyond the climatic changes, winter serves as a conduit for interpersonal connections and shared warmth. D31 Art Gallery is pleased to unveil our forthcoming online annual Winter Exhibition, themed TOGETHERNESS. This exhibition seeks to explore the authentic dimensions of winter, focusing on the inherent sense of unity and community that accompanies it. We cordially invite artists capable of capturing the unadorned essence of winter, portraying the genuine connections that unfold during this season.
Visual artists are invited to submit works inspired by the theme of Togetherness. Whether expressed through paintings, sculptures, drawings, photography, textiles, or mixed media, we seek contributions that authentically reflect the unfiltered narratives of winter connections. This is an opportunity for artists to engage in a contemplative exploration and contribute to a collective portrayal of the unvarnished reality of winter's togetherness.
WINTER EXHIBITION PRIZES: Twenty distinguished works will be selected through a public vote, affording the artists the exclusive opportunity to showcase their creations in a Chinwe Russell Art Auction. These auctions have garnered notable success, drawing attention from discerning buyers in the USA and UK. For a glimpse into the impact of previous auctions, kindly refer to the PREVIOUSLY SOLD ARTWORK.
The Exhibition: The exhibition will be hosted exclusively online, transcending geographical boundaries to present each artwork to a global audience in a virtual gallery space.
Participation: Interested artists are invited to submit their works for consideration, with a nominal participation fee of £9 per artwork. Each artist may submit a maximum of three artworks. This modest fee contributes to the sustenance of our commitment to fostering artistic expression and facilitating meaningful connections through the medium of online exhibitions.
We encourage you to submit your masterpieces, contributing to the cultural enrichment of our 2024 Winter Exhibition. Your involvement not only supports the arts but also elevates your voice within a distinguished community of artists exploring the authentic nuances of winter's togetherness.
Submit your work today and be an integral part of our esteemed Winter Exhibition, where artistic expression meets global appreciation in an atmosphere of formality and cultural significance.

We encourage entries from artists working in all disciplines; in previous years the show has included painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, film, sculpture, architecture, digital art, and more!
Now in its 170th year, this exciting show is one of the highlights of the RWA exhibition calendar and not only attracts entries from artists across the UK and beyond but a large number of art collectors and buyers!
Last year we selected and exhibited over 600 works by 375 artists. All the works exhibited are for sale both in the gallery and through our website.
Please note that both rounds of selection for this year’s Annual Open will take place online. Artists will be notified after the second round of selection and will be required to deliver their works if selected to the RWA.

What if my work is not selected?
Please don’t despair if your artwork hasn’t made the final selection. There are a number of reasons why artwork isn’t selected. Sometimes work isn’t selected because it doesn’t suit a visual art exhibition, e.g., if the piece has text heavy elements, or because it is too large or heavy to exhibit in an open exhibition.
Unfortunately, we cannot give individual feedback, but we do encourage artists to come back and enter our Meffan Winter Show again the following year and attend our Winter Show Preview.
You can collect non-selected artwork Saturday 11 - Monday 13 November 2023 during opening hours 10.30am - 4.00pm. Please note that you are unable to collect non-selected work during the Meffan Winter Show Preview.

A registration number will be required and specific time for delivery arranged.
International Artists
The RSW welcomes submissions from international artists, however there are additional considerations to bear in mind if you choose to submit from abroad. Please read the following information carefully before making your submission.
VAT REGISTRATION
All non-UK residents are classified as NETPs (Non-Established Taxable Persons) and must register with HMRC (HM Revenue + Customs) for a UK VAT number before they can before they can sell work in the UK. Registering for a UK VAT number can be done online at www.gov.uk/vat-registration/how-to-register.
If your work is pre-selected then please complete the registration as soon as possible. We must receive your VAT number, or a copy of your email from HMRC indicating the process is underway, by the time of the preselection hand in.
As stated in our Regulations, all work should be for sale, therefore, failure to supply a valid UK VAT number will lead to the rejection of work. Please note, it can take up to four weeks for the application to be processed so it is important to register as soon as you are pre-selected.
Further information on UK VAT registration and non-established taxable persons (NETPs) can be found at www.gov.uk/government/collections/vat-notices-numerical-order under the section ‘VAT Notice 700/1: should I be registered for VAT?’
If you have any questions about VAT please contact HMRC’s helpline on 0300 200 3700 (UK) or +44 2920 501 261 (abroad). The RSW is unable to provide any assistance with this process, all questions should be directed to HMRC.
DELIVERY & COLLECTION
If you are unable to hand in your pre-selected work(s) in person then you will need to send/ship them to a local courier who can deliver/collect your work(s) on the official collection days and adhere to all the specifications listed in our Regulations. It is the exhibitor’s responsibility to source a courier and make arrangements directly with them.
Below is a list of couriers who have delivered to us in the past. Please note – the RSW is not affiliated with any couriers and it is at their discretion if they can assist.
UK/EUROPE
It is the artist’s responsibility to organise and pay for all shipping, declare the artwork on your international postage customs declaration form and pay any customs costs your country may impose; this also applies to the return shipping of your work.
The RSW will not be responsible for any damage sustained to work while in transit and we recommend you take out appropriate insurance.
PACKAGING OF WORKS
The Regulations state that all packaging should be removed from works before handed in on submission days.
We appreciate this may be difficult to arrange if delivering from abroad. Where possible a courier should be found who can do this on your behalf. If that is not possible please email the RSW Administrator (rswsecretary@robbferguson.co.uk) in advance of your delivery and we will advise if we can do this for you.
